Twitter Not So Social Network???
Twitter is a Social Networking site.
What exactly does that mean? And Why does it need to be explained?
According to dictionary.com Social means: pertaining to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations
And Network means: a supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals and groups having a common interest
The reason this needs to be explained is I have been recognizing and alarming spike in several Twitterers following numbers compared to their follower numbers.
The number of following being so much higher is telling me that several individuals on Twitters “social network” aren’t being very social.
When someone follows you proper etiquette would be to in turn do a courtesy follow.
Yes, its true there are some Twitter spammers . I have had several spam followers myself. However avoiding following everyone just because of spammers sends the wrong message to other Twitterers that are looking for Networking.
When someone follows you that you return the courtesy follow ends up being a spammer simply unfollow or block them.
I have found some great informative and knowledgeable folks on the internet that I wouldn’t have learned from if I didn’t return the follow.
So log on to your Twitter account and start doing the Social thing. Start following those following you. You might be surprised all the great networks you can be a part of.
Maybe we can meet there too. @TheSeoPros
